CHILD SAFETY
Today I want to talk to you about 2 important subjects: Child Safety tips and On-Line Safety.
Safety for your child is a parent’s utmost concern. In these high-tech times paying extra attention to your child’s well-being may sometimes be very challenging. From babies and toddlers to teenage years.
Here are some important tips to help you maintain a peace of mind
• Make sure your child learns his or her address and phone number at an early age.
• Teach your child how to call 911 in case of an emergency
• When home alone, children should never open the door for strangers
• When shopping or in a crowd, children should be taught who to go to if separated from you.
• Never leave children unattended near operating stoves or burning candles.
• Choose babysitters with care. Obtain references from family, friends, and neighbors
• On the telephone, your child should never let anyone know that they are home alone: teach them to say: “Mom/Day is busy right now”.
• Be careful when you put your child’s name on clothing, backpacks or lunch boxes. It is not a good idea to have your child’s name visible
ON LINE SAFETY FOR CHILDREN
We all know that the Internet has changed our way of living. The first thing I do when I get to the office is open my lap top and start browsing the web, answering my emails, etc. and everyday someone brings the “on-line” subject concerning their kids.
Internet is a superb tool, but it can also be very harmful, so it is important for you to be aware of your child’s online activities.
Instruct your children of the following:
• Never arrange a face-to face meeting with someone they met online
• Never post pictures of themselves onto the Internet or online services to people they do not personally know
• Never give out information such as their name, home address, school name or telephone number
• Never download pictures from an unknown source
• Never respond to messages or postings that are suggestive or harassing
• Whatever they are told online may or may not be true
